Monday, February 11, 2018: Research, Teaching, Networking—Essentials for an Academic Career
Those who choose an academic career face major challenges. Caught between their own research, projects, and teaching, they must set priorities without losing sight of their own career. A strong professional network is just as important as their actual teaching and research achievements.
The speaker, Prof. Elisabeth Clausen, will share her experiences in shaping her academic career in research and teaching. She discusses dos and don’ts, which she consistently illustrates with personal examples. Prof. Elisabeth Clausen has been head of the “Advanced Mining Technologies” chair at RWTH Aachen University since March 2018. Previously, she worked first as a research assistant (until 2013) and later as an academic advisor at the Institute of Mining Engineering at Clausthal University of Technology. There, she championed modern, competency-based teaching and received multiple awards for her efforts. For example, she won the Clausthal University of Technology Teaching Award in 2014 and the “Tim Shaw Award” from the Society of Mining Professors in 2016 for her innovative teaching concepts.
