SKILL2

SKILL2 – Key Areas for the Continuous Improvement of Teaching and Learning (2016–2020)

The SKILL project at Clausthal University of Technology initially aimed to promote the integration of teaching methodology with the use of new media for innovative knowledge transfer, as well as to address the above-average enrollment in the rapidly growing field of economics. A central component of the first funding period was the implementation of a university teaching program, accompanied by the intensified use of e-learning and the establishment of additional student support services in the field of economics.

With the establishment of the "Center for University Pedagogy and Quality Management in Teaching" (ZHD), the creation and expansion of innovative offerings in the area of e-learning/blended learning by the Computer Center, and the creation of two additional positions dedicated exclusively to teaching in the field of economics, the goals of the “SKILL” project at Clausthal University of Technology were successfully implemented during the first funding period of the “Quality Pact for Teaching.”

During the "SKILL" project period, it became apparent that, in addition to increasing workload due to steadily rising student numbers (nearly 5,000 in the 2015/16 winter semester), the design of the introductory phase of studies in particular is becoming an increasing challenge.

The goal of the follow-up project “SKILL 2” in the second funding period is to continue the successful measures, on the one hand through the further development of the ZHD, and on the other hand through the support of teaching with IT and multimedia services provided by the Computer Center. In light of developments since the start of funding, a supplementary goal for the second funding period is to provide special support for introductory lectures through subject-specific pedagogical guidance, as well as to design and prepare an introductory phase tailored to the specific needs of Clausthal University of Technology.
