Well-prepared for the apprenticeship
Planning your first course is often fraught with uncertainty. What should students be able to do by the end of the course? How does learning work, and how can I design a course that promotes learning? What is expected of me as an instructor? What can I reasonably expect from the students?
We would like to address these and other questions with you as a new instructor. “Well Prepared for Teaching” offers an introduction to teaching at universities. We will provide an overview of how to design a course that promotes learning—from formulating learning objectives and planning teaching and learning situations to assessing learning outcomes. In addition to this overview, we will address your specific questions and topics particularly relevant to your situation.
The workshop consists of several modules that are selected individually and tailored to your needs. In an introductory workshop, we will present the dimensions of course planning and aspects of design that promote learning. Subsequently, we will work with participants individually to identify topics and address a selection of topics tailored to their needs in follow-up sessions. Possible topics could include:
- Learning-objective-oriented course planning
- Engaging methods
- Supporting collaborative work
- Designing counseling and support sessions
- Designing exams
The goal is for you to ultimately be able to confidently launch your first course.
