Designing and Creating Educational Films
Show processes that would otherwise go unnoticed; play a short video that explains more in one minute than 20 PowerPoint slides - Films and videos open up possibilities for making things visible that would otherwise remain invisible, and for repeating at will what seems too complex or difficult to understand on the first try. But how much effort does it take to create a video? Who helps with the concept and filming? How can videos be used effectively in teaching, and when do they actually add value?
Florian Kainer from the Center for Higher Education Pedagogy launched the “Matlab Videos” project—the largest instructional video project to date at Clausthal University of Technology—during his previous role as a research assistant at the Institute for Electrical Information Technology. The goal of the project was to create a foundation for students to independently prepare for and review courses that use MATLAB as a tool. To design the instructional videos, Mr. Kainer assembled a team of research assistants from various institutes and student assistants. This team then implemented the project with the support of Ms. Kaiser.
Anja Kaiser from the Computing Center’s Multimedia Department is responsible there for overseeing lecture broadcasts and recordings, as well as the production of instructional videos. Through her work, Ms. Kaiser has gained extensive experience in creating videos for teaching. She will discuss the opportunities offered by the Computer Center and share insights from her previous projects and experiences.
